What Do Hillbillies Wear Fo Belts

After a few very labor-and employment-rich days, I think today, finally time again to write a new post. Located in southwestern Costa Rica Puntarenas is the largest province of Costa Rica.

Capital Puntarenas City (pop. 102.504)
Area 11.266 km2 Population
357.483 (2001)
Density 32 / km2

Because of its somewhat unusual form of Puntarenas had a long time in large administrative difficulties, as the capital in the very far north lies, and so far from the majority of the population. A new scheme, which permits the award of licenses to Cantónebene has this problem but can defuse continue. Furthermore, the Puntareños but do not have much in common with the people in Perez Zeledon.

A bunch of places have developed into tourist magnet in Puntarenas, from north to south. Puntarenas itself is primarily a destination for day trippers from the Valle Central and departure point for ferries to Paquera and Playa Naranjo. With the huge bar that also offers the largest cruise ships in space, but also attacked the passengers at regular intervals, not very nice town on the peninsula in the Golfo de Nicoya. On the peninsula is the Playa Tambor, which houses the first package with the Barceló Hotel Costa Rica. In the far south of the peninsula, known for its high consumption of hashish Montezum site can be found, which is attractive but also Lukas' turtles. are on the west side of the peninsula Malpaís and Santa Teresa to find two places that attract young, preferably weekenders and surfing.

Back on the southern coast of Puntarenas one comes first on Jacó, an overcrowded city of Americans with large hotels, casinos and many of the alleged second-largest women's market in the world. No less tourist crowded, but at least with a beautiful national parks safely Manuel Antonio is located right next to the very popular with fishermen Quepos. To the south are mainly surfing beaches such as Dominical or Uvita, up to cut the Corcovado National Park. From here to the border there are the more hidden beaches in Costa Rica, the as a tourist rather not normally get to see. Entirely in the south to Paso Canoas, Panama to the border with many travel bargains to take advantage of the much cheaper prices.

Economic center of Puntarenas, Caldera, in the same bay as the capital it has the main port of Costa Rica. The latest build "highway" has been so from here to San José, but is now closed due to landslides again. The southern part is dominated by pineapple and sugar cane and of course the booming business at the border, where you here the taxes can quite easily circumvented. A large turnover can post the casinos of Jacó, as they still (!) Enjoy tax exemption is for the country as much.

My Lieblinsteil of Puntarenas is definitely the Corcovado with its indeed visited by snorkelers, but is still lonely-feeling Isla del Caño. On the Nicoya Peninsula in the north we were in January at Cerro Escondido, the trip is also definitely the most beautiful and most impressive of the year. For the next visit, there are two major plans in the province. A hike to Cerro Escondido from Paquera, and a tour of Ranger Ranger Station to Station by Corcovado.
